Mitosis

QuestionAnswer
What happens during the first growth phase? the cell grows and develops its organelles
What happens to the chromosomes during the synthesis phase? They double because the chromosomes will eventually split in two
What happens during the prophase? The centrioles move to opposite poles and the chromosomes coil up to form visible structure
What happens to spindle fibers during metaphase? The spindle fibers attach on the chromosomes and line them up in the middle
What happens to the chromosomes during anaphase? The chromosomes get pulled apart into chromatid
What is the phase where the cell starts splitting? Telephase
What happens in cytokinesis? The cell completely splits off into two cells
What is apoptosis? The process of a cell dying from old age
What is cancer and what happens to the cells affected? Cancer happens when the cells grow at an uncontrollable rate and lose their function
What is a tumor? cells that clump together because of an uncontrollable urge to divide
