What are chromosomes and their function? a thread-like structure made up of DNA, controls the function and characteristics of a cell, when chromatin is wrapped
What is chromatin? when DNA is in its string form
What are the 3 parts of a DNA? Nitrogenous bases, Phosphate, Sugar
What are 2 nitrogenous bases that are always opposite to each other? A(adenine) and T (thymine)
What is Codon? a 3 nucleotide sequence in which the order of the bases makes a certain amino acid
What is another name for nucleotide? Rung
what is the relation between amino acids and protein? amino acids join together to form a protein which carries out a specific task from the DNA
What is a gene? a segment of a DNA strand
How do doctors know when a baby has phenylketonuria? test the baby's blood
Why is down syndrome caused? an extra chromosome
What is a disease that affects nerve cells? Huntington Disease
what is a GMO whose genes are altered or have other species genes inserted Transgenic Organism
What is the name of the process of combining genes from one organism to another Genetic Engineering
what occurs when the codon sequence in the gene segment of the DNA is changed in the order it was in? mutation
What is a mutagen and what does it cause genes to do? radiation or substances, that cause genes to mutate
What is the definition of cloning? exact genetic copies of living things
