Cells And Diffusion

Part A

TermDefinition
Nucleus Controls all activitys of the cell. in both plants and animals
Cell membrane Allows/rejects molecules in/out of the cell. Molecules diffuse in/out of the cell. Made up of 2 phosphorus layers interconnected. In both plants and animals
Cell Wall Supports/protects the cell. Doesnt allow anything in/out. In both plants and animals
Chromosomes Protiens that contain DNA which has coded info for making molecules. In both plants and animals
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum Produces/stores protiens. In both plants and animals
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum Produces/stores fats and oils. In both plants and animals
Golgi bodies Modifies/packages protiens frm rough E.R with enzymes. In both plants and animals
Ribosomes Helps rough E.R make protiens. Attached to rough E.R. Helps with cell division. In both plants and animals
Centrioles Helps with Mitosis. Spindle fibres come from here. Only in animal cells.
MItochondria Converts sugar into energy for the cell. In both plants and animals
Cytoplasm Fluid in the cell that allows organelles to move. All organelles are suspended in this fluid. In both plants and animals
Vacuole Stores water, minerals and, vitamins. Significantally bigger in plants but still present in animals.
Lysosomes Breaks down food, invading bacteria and, damaged organelles. Only in animal cells.
Chloroplasts Uses sunlight to make its own food VIA photosynthesis. CO2 +H20 +LIGHT---> SUGAR +02
Osmosis Movement of water molecules from high concentration to low concentration. (like diffusion with water)
Diffusion Movement of molecules from high to low concentration.
Permeable Allows any molecule to diffuse
Semi-Permeable Allows some molecules to diffuse
Non-Permeable Allows nothing to diffuse

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
