Cells & Diffusion
Part A
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Nucleus | - Controls the activity of the cell (Plant, Animal) |
| Cell Membrane | - Allows only certain molecules in and out of the cell - Made of 2 phosphorus layers to let molecules diffuse (Plant, Animal) |
| Cell Wall | - Protects cell not allowing any molecules in or out (Plant) |
| Chromosomes | - Protein containing DNA that has information on how molecules are made (Plant, Animal) |
| Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum | - Produces and stores protein (Plant, Animal) |
| Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum | - Produces and stores fat and oil (Plant, Animal) |
| Golgibody | - Modifies & packages proteins from Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum with enzymes (Plant, Animal) |
| Ribosomes | - helps Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum make protein - attached to the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (Plant, Animal) |
| Centrioles | - Helps with cell division (Mitosis) - Spindle fibers come from here (Animal) |
| Mitochondria | - coverts sugars into energy for cell (Plant, Animal) |
| Cytoplasm | - Fluid in cell to allow organelles to move (Plant, Animal) |
| Vacuole | - Stores water, vitamins and minerals - Much larger in plants (Plant, Animal) |
| Lysosomes | - Breaks down food - Kills old, damaged cells, - Hunts down bacteria (Animal) |
| Chloroplast | - Uses sunlight to make its own food - Photo synthesis - 6CO2+6H2O→C6H12O6+6O2. (Plant) |
| Diffusion | - Movement of molecules from area of high density to low |
| Osmosis | - Movement of water molecules from area of high concentration to low |
| Permeable | - Allows any molecule to diffuse across membrane |
| Semi-Permeable | - Allows certain molecules to diffuse across membrane |
| Non-Permeable | - Allows no molecules to diffuse across membrane |
