QuestionAnswer
During the first stage of Interface (growth stage 1), how many chromosomes does a cell have? 23 chromosomes.
At what step does the cell lose its nuclear envelope disappear The nuclear envelope disappears during the prophase.
What do the spindle fibers do during metaphase? The spindle fibers attach onto the chromosomes and line them up in the middle.
What occurs during the second stage of Interface and what is it called? During the synthesis phaser, the chromosomes replicate in the nucleus and generate 2x the original amount of chromosomes.
When the spindle fibers pull half of the chromosomes towards each centriole, what step of mitosis is it called? This step is called anaphase.
Spindle fibers go back into what during the Telophase? They go back to the centrioles.
If a cell checkpoint checks for nutrients and can't find enough of it, can a cell still undergo mitosis? Explain. It cannot as the cell cycle requires nutrients to support growth.
What is the difference between mitosis and cytokinesis? Mitosis involve the nucleus dividing while cytokinesis involves the cells dividing.
When lysosomes kill off cells that are too old or dysfunctional, what is it called? It is called apoptosis.
While cancer cells can undergo mitosis an unlimited number of times, how many times can normal cells undergo mitosis? Normal cells can only undergo mitosis 50-60 times.
Why do surgeons have to remove tumors from the body once they get too large? Tumors never die on their own and they can grow even larger due to their uncontrollable urge to divide.
