What is a nucleotide? A rung made up of 2 nitrogeneous bases.
What are amino acids. Amino acids join together to form proteins which carry out a specific task from the DNA

What is PKU? Phenylketonuria is when the body does not have the enzyme to digest phenylamine found in certain proteins. It can cause brain damage.
What do they test baby's blood for? For PKU, to see if the baby has the protein enzyme.
What is down syndrome? A genetic disease caused when the embryo has extra chromosomes.
Describe the process for testing Down syndrome. Amniotic fluid from the sac is taken and a micrograph of each of the pairs of chromosomes is taken. (called a karyotype)
What disease affects nerve cells and makes a person lose muscle control? Huntington's Disease
How do you test for Huntington's disease? A DNA screening of the individual for the gene. If 1 parent has the gene, you have 50% chance of getting the disease.
What is a Transgenic Organism? A genetically modified organism (GMO) whose genes are altered or genes from another species is inserted.

what is a mutation? This happens when the codon sequence in the gene segment of the DNA strand is changed in order it was in, an abnormality is formed and the protein cant function properly.

what is the process of creating identical genetic copies of an organism? cloning
when was Dolly created? 1996, and the first mammal to be cloned.
