| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Nucleus | Controls all activities of the cell growth and reproduction |
| Cell Membrane | allows certain molecules to go in or out |
| Cell wall | supports and protects the cell (doesn't allow molecules in or out |
| Chromosomes | Proteins that contain DNA which has coded information for making molecules |
| Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum | Produces and stores protein |
| Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum | Produces and stores oils and fat |
| Golgi bodies | Modifies and packages proteins from rough endoplasmic reticulum with enzymes |
| Ribosomes | helps rough endoplasmic reticulum make proteins |
| Centrioles | helps with cell division (mitosis) |
| Mitochondria | Converts sugar into energy for the cell |
| Cytoplasm | Fluid in the cell |
| Vacuole | Stores water, minerals, and vitamins |
| Lysosomes | Breaks down food, invading bacteria, and old and damaged organelles |
| Chloroplasts | uses sunlight to make its own food (photosynthesis) |
| Diffusion | movement of molecules from areas of high concentration to low concentration |
| Osmosis | movement of water molecules from high concentration of water to low concentration of water |
| Permeable | allows any molecule to diffuse across membrane |
| Semi-permeable | allows certain molecules to diffuse across membrane |
| Non-permeable | allows no molecules to diffuse across membrane |
