Diffusion Molecules move from areas of high concentration to low concentration
Osmosis Water moves from areas of high concentration to low concentration
Permeable All molecules are able to cross the membrane
Semi-Permeable Some molecules are able to cross the membrane
Non-Permeable No molecules are able to cross the membrane
Nucleus Controls all activities of the cell; this includes growth and reproduction
Cell Membrane The part of a cell that allows certain molecules to go in and out of it (semi-permeable), and contains two phospholipid layers interconnected
Cell Wall The part of a cell that supports and protects the cell and is non-permeable
Chromosomes The part of a cell that has proteins that contain DNA which has coded information for making molecules
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (Rough ER) The part of a cell that produces and stores proteins
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (Smooth ER) The part of a cell that produces and stores fats and oils
Golgi Bodies The part of a cell that modifies and packages proteins from Rough ER with enzymes
Ribosomes The part of a cell that helps Rough ER make proteins
Centrioles The part of a cell that helps with cell diffusion and stores the spindle fibers
Mitochondria The part of a cell that converts sugar into energy for the cell
Cytoplasm The part of a cell that fluid in the cell which allows organisms in a cell to move around
Vacuole The part of a cell that store water, minerals and vitamins
Lysosomes The part of a cell that breaks down food, invading bacteria and old/damaged organelles
Chloroplast The part of a cell that turns sunlight into food
