Nucleus definitions Controls all activities of the cell growth and reproduction. It is found in bah plants and animals.
Cell membrane definition Allows certain molecules to go in or out of the cell, molecules diffuse in or out of a cell and it is made up of 2 phosphorus layers interconnected. It is located in both the plant and animal cell.
Cell wall definition Supports and protects the cell; does not allow molecules in our out. it is only located in plant cells.
Chromosomes definition Proteins that contain DNA which has coded information for making molecules. It is located in both plant and animal cells
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum definition Produces and stores protein and protein located in both plant and animal cell.
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum definition Produces and stores fat and proteins. Located in both plant and animal cell.
Golgi Bodies definition Modifies and packages proteins from rough ER with enzymes. Located in both plant and animal cell.
Ribosomes definition Help rough ER make protein. It is attached to rough ER,located in both plant and animal cell
Centrioles definition helps with cell division mitosis. Spindle fibers come from here. Only located in animal cells
Mitochondria definition Converts sugar into energy for the cell. Located in both plant and animal cells.
Cytoplasm definition Fluid in the cell; allows organelles to move around, located in both plant and animal cells.
Vacuole definition Stores water, minerals and vitamins. It is much bigger in plant cells. It is located in both plant and animal cell.
Lysosomes definition Breaks down food, Invading bacteria and old/damaged organelles Located in animal cell only.
Chloroplasts definition Use sunlight to make its own food - Photosynthesis - Co2 + H20+ light - sugar+02 - Only located in plants
Diffusion definition Movement of molecules from areas of high concentration to low concentration
Osmosis definition Movement of water molecules from high concentration of water to low concentration of water.
Permeable definition Allows only molecule to diffuse across membrane

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
