QuestionAnswer
hypothesis Possible explanation for a set of observations or possible answer to a scientific question.
prediction An explanation of anticipated results from an experiment that would support the proposed hypothesis.
independent variable Factor in an experiment that a scientist purposely changes.
dependent variable Factor in an experiment that a scientist wants to observe, which may change because of the independent variable
control group Group in an experiment which is not subjected to the treatment.
constants Factors (variables) in an experiment that a scientist purposely keeps the same.
experimental group Group in an experiment used to test the effect of the treatment.
trials Running an experiment to test a hypothesis multiple times to improve the accuracy of, and confirm previous results
sample Obtaining data from a randomly selected portion of a larger group/population.
