Unit 8: Structures and Functions of Organisms

QuestionAnswer
environment All living and non living things that live in a specific area.
function What something does.
hibernation Some animals survive the winter by slowing down their bodies and going into a deep sleep.
adaptation Any characteristic that helps a plant or animal survive in its environment.
protection A way to "fight back" and defend itself when being threatened.
habitat The place where an organism lives: habitats supply the organism with food, shelter, moisture and temperature for survival.
survive To continue to live or exist.
spines/thorns/quills Parts of a plant or animal to help protect itself.
characteristics Specific parts of a plant or animal that can describe, protect, or survive.
structure A characteristic of a plant or animal that does a certain "job" for itself.
