niche how an organism obtains its food, the type of food the organism eats, and what other organisms eat it
competition the struggle between organisms to survive as they use the same limited resources
predation an interaction in which one organism kills another for food or nutrients
symbiosis any relationship in which two species live closely together
commensalism type of symbiosis in which one species benefits and the other species is neither helped nor harmed
mutualism type of symbiosis in which both species benefit
parasitism type of symbiosis in which one organism is living with, on, or inside another organism and is harming it
adaptation an inherited trait that helps an organism survive and reproduce in its environment
predator an organism that hunts down and kills another for food
prey an organism that is being hunted or killed for food
host the organism that is being harmed in a parasitic relationship
parasite the organism that benefits in a parasitic relationship
natural selection when individuals with unique characteristics that are well suited for an environment tend to survive and produce more offspring with those same traits
camouflage ability to blend in with surroundings
