| Niche | How an organism makes its living and interacts with biotic and abiotic factors in its habitat |
| Competition | The struggle between organisms to survive as they attempt to use the same limited resources in the same place at the same time |
| Predation | An interaction in which one organism kills another for food or nutrients |
| Symbiosis | Any relationship in which two species live closely together and that benefits at least of of the species |
| Commensualism | A type of symbiosis between 2 species in which one species benefits and the other is neither helped or harmed. |
| Mutualism | A type of symbiosis in which both species benefit from living together |
| Parasitism | A type of symbiosis in which one organism lives with, on, or in a host and harms it |
| Limiting factor | An environmental factor that causes a population to decrease in size |
| Host | An organism that provides a source of energy or a suitable environment for a parasite to live with, in or on |
| Parasite | An organism that benefits by living with, on or in a host |
| Biodiversity | The number and variety of different species in an area |
| Keystone species | A species that influences the survival of many other species in an ecosystem |
| extinction | The disappearance of all members of a species from Earth |
| Invasive species | Species that are not native to a habitat and can out-compete native species in an ecosystem |
