Waht are the two functional divisions of the peripheral nervous system (PNS)? 1.) Afferent (sensory) division 2. Efferent (motor) division
What type of hormones target other endocrine glands and stimulate their growth and secretion? Tropic hormones
What type of hormone is synthesized from cholesterol? Steroid hormones
What typer of hormone is synthesized primarily from amino acids? Nonsteroid hormones
What is the purpose of glucagon hormone? Produced by alpha cells; tends to increase blood glucose levels; stimulates gluconeogenesis in liver cells.
What is the purpose of insulin hormone? Produced by beta cells; lowers blood concentration of glucose, amino acids, and fatty acids and promotes their metabolism by tissue cells
What is ejection fraction (EF)? The ratio of stroke volume (SV) to end-diastolic volume (EDV)
What is afterload? The pumping work that the heart must do to push blood into the arteries.
What are the main functions of lymph nodes? Defense through filtration and hematopoiesis for the final stages of maturation of some lymphocytes and monocytes.
What is the main function of alveoli? Exchange gas.
Where is the olfactory epithelium—special sensory membrane containing many olfactory nerve cells and a rich lymphatic plexus found? Nasal mucosa
