Question | Answer |
---|---|
Homozygous | refers to having inherited the same versions (alleles) of a genomic marker from each biological parent. |
Heterozygous | refers to having different alleles for a particular trait. |
Allele | One of two or more versions of a genetic sequence at a particular region on a chromosome. |
Genotype | refers to the genetic makeup of an organism. |
Phenotype | refers to an individual's observable traits, such as height, eye color and blood type. |
Codominance | Codominance is an inheritance pattern where two alleles are expressed equally, and neither allele is dominant or recessive. |
Incomplete Dominance | Incomplete dominance is a form of Gene interaction in which both alleles of a gene at a locus are partially expressed, often resulting in an intermediate or different phenotype. |
Law of Independent Assortment | Mendel's law of independent assortment states that the alleles of two (or more) different genes get sorted into gametes independently of one another. |
Law of Segregation | This law explains that the pair of alleles segregate from each other during meiosis cell division (gamete formation) so that only one allele will be present in each gamete. |
Hybrid | In biology, a hybrid is the offspring resulting from combining the qualities of two organisms of different varieties, species or genera through sexual reproduction. |
