Review Terms over Plant Systems
| Term | Definition |

| Stamen | the male reproductive organ of a flower includes the filament and anther |
| Anther | the part of a stamen that produces the pollen, male gamete |
| Pistil | female reproductive organ of a flower |
| Stigma | Sticky top of the style where pollen lands |
| Style | connects stigma to ovary, pollen travels through it |
| Ovule | the female gametes and becomes the seeds when fertilized |
| Petals | some are brightly colored or scented to attract pollinators |
| Stomata | Small openings on the underside of a leaf where gas exchange/water loss occurs |
| Guard Cell | Pairs of cells that surround stomata that control the opening and closing |
| Xylem | The vascular tissue that carries water upward from the roots to every part of a plant |
| Phloem | The vascular tissue that moves nutrients (sugar) from the leaves to other areas of the plant |
| Shoot system | consists of stems and leaves |
| Root system | All of a plant's roots which anchor it in the soil, absorb and transport minerals and water, and store food. |
| Phototropism | A growth response to light |
| Gravitropism/Geotropism | A growth response to gravity |
| Thigmotropism | A growth response to touch |
| Plant hormones | Chemical messengers that impact a plant's ability to respond to it's environment |
| Hydrotropism | A growth response to water |
| Transpiration | The process where plants release water vapor into the atmosphere, through tiny pores called stomata on their leaves. Helps with water/mineral transport and cooling of the plant. |
| Ovary | Produces ovules and becomes fruit (in fruiting plants) |
