Chap. 12 Lesson 3

Biology

QuestionAnswer
RNA nucleotide contains these three things 5-carbon sugar(ribose), phosphate group, nitrogen base(A, U, C & Cr)
DNA-5 Characteristics sugar-deoxyribose, double stranded structure, Nitrogen bases-A,T, C, Cr, found in the nucleus, two main functions-replication, provides instructions for making proteins
RNA 5 Characteristics Ribose, single stranded, A,U,C, Cr, outside nucleus on ribosomes, uses instructions from DNA to make proteins
Messenger RNA carries copies of instructions for the assembly of amino acid in into proteins from DNA to the rest of teh cell
Ribosomal RNA makes up the major protein of the ribosome and sees the production of proteins
Transfer RNA transfers in appropriate amino acids during protein synthesis
transcription process in which part of the nucleotide sequence of DNA is copied into a complimentary sequence of DNA
transcription this occurs in the nucleus
RNA polymerase an enzyme similar DNA polymerase that binds to a segment of DNA and separates the strands during transcription
promoter region of DNA that indicates to an enzyme where to bind to make RNA
intron sequence of DNA that is not involved in coding for a protein
exons the expressed sequence of DNA that does code for a protein
Codons a 3 nucleotide sequence on messenger RNA that codes for a single amino acid
translation occurs on ribosomes, when the cell uses information from messenger RNA to produce proteins
2 functions of DNA replication, provides instructions of making proteins
another name for sugar deoxyribose
DNA is found here the nucleus
RNA is found here on ribosomes outside the nucleus
DNA structure double stranded
RNA structure single stranded

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
