| nondisjunction | failure of homologs to separate during metaphase 1 of meiosis |
| Trisomy | presence of 3 copies of a chromosome |
| monosomy | presence of only 1 copy of a chromosome |
| karyotyping | profiling an individuals chromosomes from nuclei undergoing division |
| Chromosomal Syndromes | conditions such as down syndrome, edwards syndrome, and patau syndrome caused by chromosomal anomalies |
| Klinefelter Syndrome | Trisomy XXY resulting in a sterile male with weaker muscles and low testosterone |
| Turner Syndrome | Monosomy XO resulting in a short stature, webbed neck, and heart problems in females |
| Crossing Over | Translocation of SRY gene from X to Y chromosome affecting sex determination |
| Intersex | develops from a chromosomal, genetic, or hormonal pathways, leading to a "mismatch" between chromosomes and sex |
| XY Female: Swyer Syndrome | female phenotype, ovaries non functional |
| XX Male: male phenotype | small testes and sterile |
| Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome: XY Female | testosterone receptors mutated, cells cant sense testosterone |
