Science inquiry skills (SIS)

Reliability Repetition. With repeated trials in an experiment, the results are repeatable given the same population and method. Repetition increases _____ by identifying outliers, and reducing their impact. experiments must also have a large enough sample size.
Validity Variables. Controlled variables and a control group can make an experiment _____. the experiment tests what it is intending to test. You are certain the IV is making the change
Accuracy Tools and techniques are precise and appropriate. inaccurate measurements lead to inaccurate results. select the right tool for the rist task, and use so correctly.
Independent variable changed on purpose to investigate it's affect on the dependent variable.
Dependent variable measures to see the independent variables' affect.
Controlled variables things kept the same by the experimenter to keep the test as fair as possible.
Features of a conclusion restate hypothesis, say whether it was supported or unsupported, and provide evidence from the data collected that supports your statement on the hypothesis.
Animal ethics: replacement replace with animals of a lower sentience when possible (must be able to produce reliable and valid results safely and effectively)
Animal ethics: reduction number of animals used must be the minimum necessary to achieve the proposed aim(s) and to satisfy god statistical design. too few can invalidate experiment and result in wastage.
Animal ethics: refinement use methods that alleviate or minimise potential pain and distress, and enhance animal welfare. applies to all aspects of animal care and use. may mean changing the procedure.
