Includes cell organelles and their functions
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Cell Wall | A substance that surrounds the cell membrane and provides support to the cell. (found in plant cells) |
| Cell Membrane | A protective layer that covers the cells and controls what goes in and out of the cell. |
| Cytoplasm | The jelly like fluid that fills the cells. |
| Nucleus | An large organelle in an eukaryotic cell that controls the cell and contains the DNA |
| Chloroplast | Organelles in plant cells that trap sunlight for photosynthesis to take place. |
| Lysosome | The organelle breaks down food and waste in the cell. (aka-trashcan) |
| Mitochondria | The organelle that releases energy to the cell and gives it power. |
| Vacuole | The organelle that stores water and other materials for the cell. |
| Eukaryotic | Cell that has a nucleus as an organelle. hint: EU=DO |
| Prokaryotic | Cell that does NOT have a nucleus as an organelle. hint: PRO=NO |
| Organelle | The parts of a cell that perform a specific function. |
| Plant Cell | Contains a cell wall and chloroplast that animal cells don't have. |
