Cell Cycle The Regular pattern of growth in cells

Telomere Repeating nucleotide at the ends of DNA molecules that dont form genes.
Histone A group of proteins that DNA wraps around
Prophase First phase of mitosis
Chromatin Loose combination of DNA and proteins
Metaphase Second phase of mitosis
Chromatid One half of a duplicated chromosome
Anaphase Third phase of mitosis
Centromere Region of condensed chromosomes that looks pinched
Telophase Last phase of mitosis
Growth Factor Broad group of proteins that stimulate cell division
Metastasize To spread by transferring a disease
Apoptosis Programmed for cell death
Carcinogen Substance that produces or promotes the growth of cancer
Cancer Common name for a class of diseases
Benign Having no dangerous affect on health
Malignant Cancerous tumor
Tissue Group of cells that work together to perform a similar function
Stem Cell Cell that can divide for long periods of time
Organ Groups of different tissues that work together to perform a specific function or related function
Organ System Two or more organs that work in a coordinated way to carry out similar functions
Cell Differentiation Processes by which unspecialized cells develop into their mature form and function
