Homeostasis Vocab

QuestionAnswer
Homeostasis Balanced internal state for a single organism. (Not the environment)
Dynamic Equilibrium Changing balance within a range AKA homeostasis
Disease A failure or imbalance of homeostasis
Response Reaction to a stimulus, trying to get back to normal
Regulation Nervous and endocrine control systems used to reach homeostasis
Negative Feedback Feedback that turns on and off a response, up-down
Positive Feedback Feedback that turns up the response, up-up-up-off
Insulin Reduces blood sugar by bringing sugar into muscles (Made of protein, has a shape)
Glucagon Increases blood sugar by releasing stored sugar from liver (Made of protein, has a shape)
Diabetes Disease where blood sugar remains above range for too long
Hormone Any chemical message sent by a gland. (Made of protein, has a shape)
Receptor A surface protein on the cell that is receives a message (Made of protein, has a shape)
Target tissue The cell that has the matching shaped receptor to the chemical released.
