adrenal medulla adrenaline & noradrenaline most body tissues prepares the body for fight/flight response; reinforce effect of sympathetic nervous system
pancreas -insulin +glucagon -most body cells +liver and tissue fat -stimulates uptake of glucose - lowers blood glucose level +stimulate breakdown of glycogen & fat; increase blood glucose level
testes androgens - testosterone many tissues stimulate sperm production, growth of skeleton and muscles, development of male sexual characteristics
ovaries oestrogen progesterone many tissues uterus and mammary gland stimulate development of female sexual characteristics, regulate menstrual cycle, regulate menstrual cycle and pregnancy, prepare mammary gland for milk secretion
thyroid thyroxine triiodothyronine - calcitonin most body cells -bones & kidney increase metabolic rate and therefore oxygen consumption and heat production - decreases calcium and phosphate levels in the blood
parathyroid parathyroid hormone bones kidney increase level of calcium in the blood
thymus thymosins t-lymphocytes stimulates development and maturation of T-lymphocytes
