| Nucleus | The control center of a cell; contains DNA and hereditary information about the cell. |
| Chromosome | A threadlike structure that appears in a cell's nucleus and contain DNA. |
| Gene | A sequence of DNA that determines a trait and is passed from parent to offspring. |
| Allele | A different for of the same gene. |
| DNA | The genetic material that carries information about an organism and is passed from parent to offspring. |
| Variation | Any difference between individuals of the same species |
| Trait | A specific characteristic that an organism can pass to its offspring through its genes. |
| Sexual Reproduction | Where two parents combine their genetic material to create a new organism that differs from both parents. |
| Asexual Reproduction | Is the simplest form of reproduction; The organism does not require another of the opposite gender to reproduce. |
| Genome | The complete set of genetic information that an organism carries in its DNA. |
| Dominant Allele | A trait that will always show up in the offspring. |
| Recessive Allele | A trait that is hidden when the dominant allele is present. |
| Genotype | an organism's genetic makeup or combinations of alleles. |
| Phenotype | The organism's physical appearance or visible traits. |
| Inheritance | The process by which an offspring receives genes from both the father and the mother. |
| Mutation | Any change in the DNA of a gene or a chromosome |
| Probability | Is a number that describes how likely something is to occur. |
| Heredity | The passing of traits from the parents to the offspring. |
