1st Stage of Meiosis (Interphase and PMAT)

prophase I nucleus breaks down
metaphase I spindle fibers attach to the chromosome centromeres
anaphase I spindle fibers shorten
telophase I chromosomes reach poles
interphase cell grows and carries out normal cell functions
prophase I chromatin condenses into chromosomes and homologous chromosomes pair up and crossing over takes place
metaphase I chromosomes line up in PAIRS in the middle of the cell
anaphase I chromosome PAIRS are pulled apart and they move to opposite poles in the cell
telophase I two nuclei reform and chromosomes uncoil back into chromatin (1 strand)
interphase DNA is replicated
prophase I centrioles begin to form spindle fibers
