Who does cellular respiration? ALL eukaryotic cells & some prokaryotic cells! Because ALL cells need energy!
Where do organisms perform cellular respiration? the mitochondria
What's needed for cellular respiration? Glucose (food), oxygen, enzymes, The Helpers
Cellular Respiration – The Reaction glucose plus oxoygen = carbon dioxide plus water
What's made in cellular respiration? carbon dioxide (released as waste), water, ATP (used in cell)
What is ATP from cellular respiration used for? Cells use the energy for: synthesis, active transport, reproduction, movement, maintaining, homeostasis
What factors affect cellular respiration? Temperature, enzymes are needed for CR Glucose concentration in cell/body Oxygen availability
What happens to human cells if oxygen isn’t available? Human cells go through lactic acid fermentation Cells produce ATP until oxygen becomes available again
Lactic acid fermentation - who does it? Some bacteria, some fungi, and animals (sometimes)
Where does lactic acid fermentation take place? cytoplasm
What's needed for lactic acid fermentation? glucose
What’s made from lactic acid fermentation? Small amount of ATP
Examples of lactic acid fermentation? Bacteria use this to make yogurt In humans, causes burning sensation in muscles
Who does alcoholic fermentation ? yeast
Where does alcoholic fermentation take place ? cytoplasm
What's needed for alcoholic fermentation ? glucose
What's produced from alcoholic fermentation ? Small amount of ATP, carbon dioxide, alcohol
Examples of alcoholic fermentation? Used to make bread, beer, & wine Carbon dioxide bubbles make holes in bread
