TermDefinition
Simple Diffusion occurs when all molecules can move freely through the membrane
Facilitated Diffusion occurs when a molecule or molecules can only pass through specific protein channels in the membrane
Passive Transport particle move without using energy, from high to low concentration
Passive Transport Examples Simple Diffusion, Facilitated Diffusion, and Osmosis
Osmosis the net movement of water molecules through a permeable membrane, from areas of LOW SOLUTE(high water) to HIGH SOLUTE(low water)
Active Transport energy supplied via ATP is used to move a particle from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration
Conductivity Probe measure the ability of a solution to conduct an electric current between its two electrodes
Multiple Small or One Large Cell is better? Multiple small cells, they conduct more energy than one large cell. A large surface-to-volume ratio means more resistance to electrical flow
Hypertonic Leads to shriveling
Hypotonic Leads to bursting
Isotonic Will not gain or lose water, wat molecules enter and leave at an equal rate
