LAB 3 TERMS

TermDefinition
Population all possible observations of a particular type(ex. all humans)
Sample a subset of the possible observations from a population
Parameter a number developed to describe some aspect of the entire population
Statistic a number developed to describe an aspect of a sample
Central Tendency measure that describe the typical (or usual or most likely) state of a sample(mean, median, mode)
Inferential Statistics numbers used to draw inferences about a population from a sample
Inference a conclusion made based on available evidence
Inductive Reasoning reasoning from detailed facts to form a general principle
Median the middle measurement in a set of measurements
Mode the most common measurements
Mean (average) the sum of all measurements divided by the number of measurements
