LAB 3 TERMS
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Population | all possible observations of a particular type(ex. all humans) |
| Sample | a subset of the possible observations from a population |
| Parameter | a number developed to describe some aspect of the entire population |
| Statistic | a number developed to describe an aspect of a sample |
| Central Tendency | measure that describe the typical (or usual or most likely) state of a sample(mean, median, mode) |
| Inferential Statistics | numbers used to draw inferences about a population from a sample |
| Inference | a conclusion made based on available evidence |
| Inductive Reasoning | reasoning from detailed facts to form a general principle |
| Median | the middle measurement in a set of measurements |
| Mode | the most common measurements |
| Mean | (average) the sum of all measurements divided by the number of measurements |
