cellular components and organelles
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Plasma Membrane(functions) | Encloses cell contents, selectively permeable Regulate passage |
| Endoplasmic Reticulum(general structure) | Continuous with nuclear envelope ER Lumen(internal space) |
| RER | has ribosomes attached to it |
| SER(functions) | site of lipid synthesis and metabolism, detoxifying enzymes |
| What cells produce most SER? | Liver, because the more SER, the more detoxifying enzymes, drugs are broken down easier(tolerance is also built) |
| Golgi Apparatus | protein modification |
| Cis Face receives.. | transport vesicles from ER |
| Trans face releases... | transport vesicles, they exit through the trans face |
| Lysosomes | sacs of hydrolytic enzymes(they breakdown things) |
| Primary Lysosomes | processed in golgi and bud off |
| Secondary Lysosomes | fuse with vesicles containing ingested material |
| Vacuoles | large vesicles derived from ER and Golgi |
| Vacuoles(ex functions) | hold H2O, waste, store proteins, isolate toxins |
