| Term | Definition |

| Species | A group of organisms that can reproduce with one another and produce fertile offspring. |
| Binomial Nomenclature | A 2-word naming system that uses the genus and the species of the organism. (Homo sapiens is the scientific name for humans) |
| Genus | A group of similar species |
| Classification | A system of grouping organisms based on their similar characteristics |
| Kingdom | The 2nd largest taxonomic group which consists of similar phyla |
| Dichotomous Key | A tool scientists used to group and name living things |
| Taxonomy | The science of naming and describing and classifying organisms |
| Domain | The highest taxonomic rank of all organisms |
| Cladogram | Branching diagram showing relationshops between organisms based on their common traits |
| Phylogenetic Tree | A diagram that depicts the lines of evolutionary descent of different species, organisms, or genes from a common ancestor |
| Common Ancestor | Another organism that living things have in common |
