vocabulary words

TermDefinition
Advantageous The better trait. The trait that will give that orgaism the advantage.
Natural Selection When the organism best suited for an environment can survive and reproduce.
Evolution The change in the gene pool over time.
Fitness The organism's reproductive success.
Mutation A change in the DNA. Can lead to variation among the species.
Nonrandom Mating When organisms can choose who they want to mate with.
Variation Differences among traits
Shrinking population A sudden event that drastically reduces the population, leaving only a few left.
Geen flow Moving in and out of an area (Organisms can immigrate (move in) or Emigrate (move out) of an area
Geen Pool All of the genes in a population
Adaptation A feature that is beneficial to a certain environment. Will be selected for.
