| energy pyramid | show's how the sun's energy flows through an environment by trophic level; the arrow is pointing in the direction that the energy is flowing |
| metabolism | collection of the chemical processes in the body that help to break down food molecules for energy |
| endotherm | an animal that uses energy stored in its body to maintain a normal body temperature for that animal |
| producers | are on the base of the energy pyramid; receives 100% of its energy from the sun; a plant that starts the energy pyramid, makes its own food |
