BIO TEST
Biochemistry, Photosynthesis, Cellular Respiration Test
| Inorganic Compound | Does not have carbon or hydrogen in it |
| Organic Compound | Has carbon and hydrogen in it |
| Carbohydrates | Simple sugars/monosaccharides |
| Proteins | Builds and repairs damaged cells |
| Lipids | Fats, oils, waxes |
| Nucleic Acids | Nucleotide (stores genetic information) |
| Hydrolysis | Adding water to break a bond/bonds |
| Dehydration Synthesis | The removal of water to make a bond/bonds |
| Enzyme | Speeds up reactions and lowers the activation energy for a reaction |
| Catalyst | An enzyme |
| Enzyme-Substrate Complex | The site on an enzyme where reactants can be brought together to react to reduce the activation energy |
| Peptide Bond | Links amino acids to make a chain/chains |
| Aerobic Respiration | Pathways of cellular respiration that does require energy |
| Anaerobic Respiration | Pathways of cellular respiration that does not require energy |
| ATP | Energy/Adenosine Triphosphate |
| Lactic Acid Fermentation | When glucose gets broken down without the use of oxygen and creates a small amount of ATP and lactic acid |
| Alcohol Fermentation | In live yeast cells and other unicellular organisms |
| Photosynthesis | Taking the energy from sunlight, converting it into chemical energy and storing it in the bonds of carbohydrates |
| Guard Cells | Allows the stomata to open and close to let water out and gasses in or out |
| Stomata | Little openings on the underside of the leaf that allows for gasses to come in or out |
| Cellular Respiration | The process that releases oxygen from food (typically glucose) in the presence of oxygen |
