Atom The smallest basic unit of matter.
Element One particular type of atom
Proton A positively charged particle
Neutron A particle with no charge (neutral)
Electron Negatively charged particle
Isotope Atoms of the same element that differ in the number of neutrons they contain.
Ion Atom that's lost one or more electrons
Compound Substance made of atoms from different elements
Molecule Two or more atoms held together with covalent bonds.
Ionic Bond Forms through the electrical force between oppositely charged ions
Covalent Bond Forms when atoms share a pair of electrons.
