Conjuction Transfer of genetic material from one bacterium to another
Transduction Process when DNA is transfered from a bacterium to another by a virus
Transformation Uptake DNA from environment and makes it bacterial DNA and is often shed by other bacteria
Anti-biotics Prevents bulding or repairing of cell wall and/or membrane and kills bacteria or slows its growth as well as disrupt production of genetic material such as DNA and RNA
Viruses Biological particle composed of nucluic acid and protein
Latent Period When the provirus enters a latent stage where the infected cell divides by mitosis and makes copies of the provirus during the Lysogenic cycle
Cell Membrane The fluid inside of a cell that gives life a body
Simple diffusion Small hydrophobic mloecules cross quickly with no ATP required
Facilitated diffusion Small polar molecules that cross slowly with no ATP required but requires transport protein
Active Transport Highly charged and large molecules that require ATP to cross membrane
Methanogens Archaea that live in oxogen free environments
Halophiles Archaea that live in extremely saline environments
Thermoacidophiles Archaea that live in extremely hot and acidic environments

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.
