Cell Organelles

TermDefinition
Nucleus Contains DNA- the control center of the cell
Ribosomes Makes proteins
Mitochondria location of cellular respiration- makes energy for the cell
Cytoplasm Gel-like fluid in the cell that the organelles float in.
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) Rough ER hold ribosomes and helps finalize proteins, Smooth ER helps make lipid molecules (fats)
Golgi Bodies transports materials around the cell- FedEx of the cell uses vesicles to package materials
Lysosomes Recycles used materials and breaks down wastes
Vacuole Large in plants, used for storage
Chloroplasts Conduct photosynthesis- are green
Cell Wall Rigid outer layer that gives the plant cell its shape
Cell Membrane Semi-permeable: allows some materials in and out of the cell but not all
DNA Instructions for making proteins- genetic material Also known as chromosomes
