TermDefinition
Autotroph An organism that can make its own food. A synonym is producer.
Chemical equation A process that shows how substances are combined together to create new substances.
Chlorophyll The green pigment that absorbs light energy. It is inside the chloroplast.
Chloroplast The organelle that does photosynthesis; it makes food for plants, some bacteria, and some protists.
Conclusion In a controlled experiment, it is the answer to the problem statement.
Consumer An organism that has to eat other organisms for food. A synonym is heterotroph.
Food chain The order in which organisms depend on each other for food.
Heterotroph An organism that has to eat other organisms for food. A synonym is consumer.
Leaf The plant organ that does photosynthesis.
Organ A structure made of different tissues that work together to perform a specific function.
Organelle A part of a cell that does a specific job.
Organism A living thing made of one or more cells.
Oxygen A product of photosynthesis. It is needed for cellular respiration. It is a gas.
Part per million A unit used to describe a very small concentration of a substance. It is written as 1/1,000,000

Wavelength The distance between wave peaks. Different distances between wavelengths create different colors.
