Lacunae small spaces in bone matrix that contain tissue fluid and in which bone cells lie imprisoned between the hard layers of the lamellae.
Trochanter Large bump for muscle attachment (larger than a tubercle or tuberosity)
covalent bond A chemical bond formed by the sharing of one or more pairs of electrons between the outer energy levels of two atoms
Anabolism the term used to describe chemical reactions that join simple molecules together to form more complex biomolecules—notably, carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids.
Catabolism chemical reactions that not only break down relatively complex compounds into simpler ones but also release energy from them.
connective tissue Connective tissue is one of the four primary tissue types in the body, playing a crucial role in providing support, binding together, and protecting tissues and organs of the body.
Thrombocytes commonly known as platelets, are small, disc-shaped cell fragments in the blood that play a crucial role in hemostasis, which is the process of stopping bleeding by forming blood clots.
hematopoietic tissue this tissue refers to the tissue in the body that is involved in the production of blood cells, a process known as hematopoiesis.
intercalated disks structures found between adjacent cardiac muscle cells (cardiomyocytes) in the heart. They play a crucial role in maintaining the structure of the cardiac muscle and facilitating communication and contraction synchronization among the cardiomyocytes.
Lamella the thin layers or sheets of tissue in compact bone, particularly within the osteon, which is the structural unit of compact bone.
