Term | Definition |
---|---|
Lacunae | small spaces in bone matrix that contain tissue fluid and in which bone cells lie imprisoned between the hard layers of the lamellae. |
Trochanter | Large bump for muscle attachment (larger than a tubercle or tuberosity) |
covalent bond | A chemical bond formed by the sharing of one or more pairs of electrons between the outer energy levels of two atoms |
Anabolism | the term used to describe chemical reactions that join simple molecules together to form more complex biomolecules—notably, carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. |
Catabolism | chemical reactions that not only break down relatively complex compounds into simpler ones but also release energy from them. |
connective tissue | Connective tissue is one of the four primary tissue types in the body, playing a crucial role in providing support, binding together, and protecting tissues and organs of the body. |
Thrombocytes | commonly known as platelets, are small, disc-shaped cell fragments in the blood that play a crucial role in hemostasis, which is the process of stopping bleeding by forming blood clots. |
hematopoietic tissue | this tissue refers to the tissue in the body that is involved in the production of blood cells, a process known as hematopoiesis. |
intercalated disks | structures found between adjacent cardiac muscle cells (cardiomyocytes) in the heart. They play a crucial role in maintaining the structure of the cardiac muscle and facilitating communication and contraction synchronization among the cardiomyocytes. |
Lamella | the thin layers or sheets of tissue in compact bone, particularly within the osteon, which is the structural unit of compact bone. |
