Unit 2 & 3.A Review

Unit 2 & 3.a Review

QuestionAnswer
Photosynthesis a process that uses sunlight, CO2 and water to make sugars
Cellular Respiration The set of the metabolic reactions and processes that take place in the cells of organisms to convert energy from nutrients into adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and then release waste products.
Cells The basic units of living organisms
Anaerobic A process that does not require oxygen
Aerobic A process that requires oxygen
Where does Cellular Respiration takes place? Mitochondria
Describe the mitochondria. Has a smooth outer membrane; a folded in membrane inner membrane. These folds are called cristae. The space inside the cristae is called the matrix.
What is the equation for photosynthesis 6CO2 + 6H2O -> C6H12O6 + 6O2
What is the name of the main pigment in the chloroplasts, used to absorb light ? Chlorophyll
What are the 2 parts that the photosynthesis process can be split into ? Light dependent reactions & Light independent reactions
Light dependent reactions Collecting energy from the sun
Light independent reactions Making sugar from the energy provide in the light dependent reactions
What are the inputs/reactions in light dependent reactions ? sunlight and water
What is the equation for Cellular Respiration? C6H12O6 + 6O2 -> 6CO2 + 6H2O
What are the inputs/reactions for Cellular Respiration ? sugar and oxygen
What are the outputs/products for Cellular Respiration ? carbon dioxide and water
Stages of Cellular Respiration 1. Glycolysis - Pre- Krebs 2. Krebs Cycle 3. Electron Transport
The 2 types of Fermentation. Alcoholic Fermentation and Lactic Acid Fermentation
What does lactic acid cause? Muscle Soreness
Anabolic Reactions small molecules are combined into large molecules for repair, growth, or storage.
Catabolic Reactions Breaks down molecules to release their stored energy
Chromosomes are made made of DNA
Prokaryotic Chromosomes DNA molecules are found on the cytoplasm
Eukaryotic Chromosomes Have multiple chromosomes
How many chromosomes do an human have ? A human have 46 Chromosomes
What is the cell cycle ? a series of events durning which the cells grows, prepares for division, and then divides to form two daughter cells.
What are the four stages in which a Eukaryotic Cell Cycle consists of ? G1 , S , G2 , and M
What is the longest stage in the cell cycle ? Interphase
What happened in the interphase stage of the cell cycle ? it grows, replicates its chromosomes, and prepares for cell division
What 2 stages is the M stage split into? the M stage is split into mitosis and cytokinesis
Sexual Reproduction offspring inherits traits from both parents , requires two parents
Asexual Reproduction offspring inherits traits from the parent, requires on parent
What does both sexual and asexual reproduction have in common ? produces offspring
What happens in the M stage ? nuclear division (mitosis) followed by cytoplasmic division (cytokinesis)
Mitosis a type of cell division that results in two daughter cells
