| Term | Definition |

| Observation | Looking at something carefully or in order to gain information. |
| Inference | An idea or conclusion that's drawn from evidence and reasoning. |
| QuaNtitative Observation | Involves NUMBERS, or an amount. (2 text messages on your phone) |
| Qualitative Observation | Expressed without numbers. The bike is blue, The grapes tastes sour. |
| Controlled Variable | A variable that's held constant in a experiment |
| Hypothesis | An educated guess. Includes an Independent and Dependent Variable. “If, then” statements |
| Independent Variable (I change) | What I CHANGED (Gave vitamins to a baby cow) |
| Dependent Variable (Date) | What you MEASURED (The weight of the cow) |
| Experiment | Carefully - designed steps to test your hypothesis |
| Results | Conclusions that are based on observations or facts. |
| Conclusion | Information obtained to decide if the hypothesis was supported or not supported |
| Peer Review | Colleagues examine experiment from an experimenter |
