What are the two main groups that Kingdom Protista is divided into? Subkingdoms Protozoa and Algae
What are the four major phyla in subkingdom Protozoa? Phyla Mastigophora, Sarcodina, Ciliophora, and Sporozoa.
What are the five major phyla in subkingdom Algae? Phyla Chlorophyta, Chrysophyta, Pyrrophyta, Phaeophyta, and Rhodophyta.
What are Pseudopods? A temporary, foot-like extension of a cell, used for locomotion, or engulfing food.
What is a Nucleus? The region of a eukaryotic cell that contains the cell's main DNA.
What is a Vacuole? A membrane-bounded "sac" within a cell.
What is Ectoplasm? The thin, watery cytoplasm near the plasma membrane of some cells.
What is Endoplasm? The dense cytoplasm found in the interior of many cells.
What is a Flagellate? A protozoan that propels itself with a flagellum.
What is Pellicle? A firm, flexible coating outside the plasma membrane.
What is a Chloroplast? An organelle containing chlorophyll for photosynthesis.
What is a Chlorophyll? A pigment necessary for photosynthesis.
What is the Eyespot? A light-sensitive region in certain protozoa.
Do euglenas reproduce asexually or sexually? Asexually.
What is Symbiosis? A close relationship between two or more species where at least one benefits.
What is Mutualism? A relationship between two or more organisms of different species where all benefit from the association.
What is Commensalism? A relationship between two organisms of different species where one benefits and the other is neither harmed nor benefited.
What is Parasitism? A relationship between two organisms of different species where one benefits and the other is harmed.
What are Cilia? Hairlike projections that extend from the plasma membrane and are used for locomotion.
What is a Spore? A reproductive cell with a hard, protective coating.
What are Plankton? Tiny organisms that float in the water.
What are Zooplankton? Tiny, floating organisms that are either small animals or protozoa.
What is the Thallus? The body of a plant-like organism that is not divided into leaves, roots, or stems.
What is Cellulose? A substance (made of sugars) that is common in the cell walls of many organisms.
What are Phytoplankton? Tiny, floating photosynthetic organisms, primarily algae.
What are Holdfasts? Special structures used by an organism to anchor itself.
What is a Sessile colony? A colony that uses holdfasts to anchor itself to an object.
