Organism Any living thing
Cell The basic unit of structure and function in living things
Unicellular Made of a single cell
multicellular Made up of many cells
stimulus A change in the environment that makes an organism react
response An action or change in behavior from a stimulus
spontaneous generation Mistaken idea that living things come from nonliving sources
homeostasis The condition of an organism's environment will stay the same even if changes on the outside environment
Species A group of similar organisms that can mate and produce offspring
Classification grouping things based on their similarities
Genus A taxonomic category that names a group of similar organisms
Binomial Nomenclature A unique scientific name indicating it's genus and species
Taxonomy The scientific study of how living things are classified
Domain The most basic level of organization in classification
Virus A tiny nonliving particle that enters and reproduces inside a living cell
Host An organism that provides a source of energy and a suitable environment for a virus to live.
Vaccine A substance used in vaccination that consists of pathogens that have been weakened or killed that trigger the bodies immune system
Bacteria Single celled organism that lacks a nucleus; Prokaryote
Protist A Eukaryotic Organism that cannot be classified as an animal, plant, or fungus
