Organism | Any living thing |
Cell | The basic unit of structure and function in living things |
Unicellular | Made of a single cell |
multicellular | Made up of many cells |
stimulus | A change in the environment that makes an organism react |
response | An action or change in behavior from a stimulus |
spontaneous generation | Mistaken idea that living things come from nonliving sources |
homeostasis | The condition of an organism's environment will stay the same even if changes on the outside environment |
Species | A group of similar organisms that can mate and produce offspring |
Classification | grouping things based on their similarities |
Genus | A taxonomic category that names a group of similar organisms |
Binomial Nomenclature | A unique scientific name indicating it's genus and species |
Taxonomy | The scientific study of how living things are classified |
Domain | The most basic level of organization in classification |
Virus | A tiny nonliving particle that enters and reproduces inside a living cell |
Host | An organism that provides a source of energy and a suitable environment for a virus to live. |
Vaccine | A substance used in vaccination that consists of pathogens that have been weakened or killed that trigger the bodies immune system |
Bacteria | Single celled organism that lacks a nucleus; Prokaryote |
Protist | A Eukaryotic Organism that cannot be classified as an animal, plant, or fungus |
