Levels of Organization

TermDefinition
Atom The smallest unit of matter. It's like the tiniest building block of everything, like LEGO pieces for the universe.
Molecule A group of atoms bonded together. It's like a small group of LEGO pieces stuck together to make something more complex.
Organelle Tiny structures inside a cell that have specific jobs. They're like little machines in the cell, each doing a different task.
Cell The basic unit of life. It's like a small living room where all the important stuff happens in an organism.
Tissue A group of similar cells working together. It's like a bunch of people with the same job working in the same office.
Organ A structure made of different tissues that performs a specific function. It's like a team of people in the office working together on a big project.
Organ System A group of organs working together for a common purpose. Think of it as different teams in the office collaborating on a big project.
Organism A single, individual living thing. It's like one person or animal, such as you or your pet.
Population A group of the same type of organisms living in the same area. Think of it as all your classmates in your biology class.
Community All the different populations of organisms living together in one place. It's like all the students, teachers, and staff in your school.
Ecosystem A community of living organisms and their physical environment. It's like your school, the building, the playground, and all the people and animals in it.
Biome A large area with a specific climate and certain types of plants and animals. Think of it as a big region with its own unique character, like a desert or a rainforest.
Biosphere The entire part of Earth where life exists, including land, water, and the atmosphere. It's like the whole planet, with everything that lives on it.
