| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| dihybrid cross - | A cross between two individuals, concentrating on two definable traits example: a Punnett square for both eye color and hair color |
| Ratios of dihybrid cross - | if both parents are heterozygous for both traits, the phenotyptic ratio of the offspring will be 9:3:3:1 |
| dihybrid cross answers - | answers can be given in terms of x/16 for instance, if 3 offspring will be green and round, you can write 3/16 will be green and round |
| sex-linked traits - | Traits controlled by genes located on sex chromosomes AKA X-linked traits |
| X chromosome - | women have two, men have one has more genes than the Y chromosome |
| Y chromosome - | not found in women, men have one |
| recessive phenotypes for sex-linked traits - | seen more often in men this is because they only have one x chromosome |
| Pedigrees - | a chart that shows a trait in a family and how it is inherited |
| squares in pedigrees - | males |
| circles in pedigrees - | females |
| unshaded in pedigrees - | not affected |
| Shaded in pedigree - | affected has the disease or trait |
| carrier - | has the recessive allele for a trait but they are heterozygous, so they do not have the disease they can pass the recessive allele onto their children |
