609 Dihybrids

TermDefinition
dihybrid cross - A cross between two individuals, concentrating on two definable traits example: a Punnett square for both eye color and hair color
Ratios of dihybrid cross - if both parents are heterozygous for both traits, the phenotyptic ratio of the offspring will be 9:3:3:1
dihybrid cross answers - answers can be given in terms of x/16 for instance, if 3 offspring will be green and round, you can write 3/16 will be green and round
sex-linked traits - Traits controlled by genes located on sex chromosomes AKA X-linked traits
X chromosome - women have two, men have one has more genes than the Y chromosome
Y chromosome - not found in women, men have one
recessive phenotypes for sex-linked traits - seen more often in men this is because they only have one x chromosome
Pedigrees - a chart that shows a trait in a family and how it is inherited
squares in pedigrees - males
circles in pedigrees - females
unshaded in pedigrees - not affected
Shaded in pedigree - affected has the disease or trait
carrier - has the recessive allele for a trait but they are heterozygous, so they do not have the disease they can pass the recessive allele onto their children
