601 Mutations

TermDefinition
Mutations - Any change in DNA Caused by errors during replication or damage to DNA
Gene mutations - Mutations that produce changes in a single gene Contrast with chromosome mutations
Chromosome mutations - variations in the number or structure of chromosomes Caused by errors during meiosis or damage to DNA
Point mutations - A change in a single base pair
Frameshift mutation - involves the insertion or deletion of a nucleotide in the DNA sequence
Silent mutation - a substitution mutation that does not cause a change in the amino acid that is coded for
Missense Mutation - A substitution mutation that cause the codon to code for a different amino acid
Nonsense mutation - changes a normal codon into a stop codon Results in a shorter amino acid sequence
