DNA - deoxyribonucleic acid
function of DNA - stores genetic information
genetic information - instructions for making proteins these proteins determine your traits
nucleic acids - DNA and RNA composed of nucleotides
nucleotides - building blocks of nucleic acids in other words, the monomers of nucleic acids
Parts of a nucleotide - 5 carbon sugar, phosphate group, nitrogenous base
Nitrogenous bases in DNA - adenine, guanine, cytosine, thymine
DNA shape - double helix AKA twisted ladder consists of two strands of nucleotides
sugar-phosphate backbone - a repeating pattern of sugar-phosphate-sugar-phosphate make of the sides of the DNA "ladder"
base pairing - A pairs with T and G pairs with C
chromosome - condensed threads of genetic material formed from chromatin as a cell prepares to divide
