Cell Energy

QuestionAnswer
ATP The cell’s energy currency.
ADP Adenosine diphosphate
photosynthesis A two part process used by autotrophs to make food in the form of sugar
Calvin Cycle This reaction combines CO2 +rubisco + C5 molecule to produce sugar.
chemosynthesis Organisms obtain energy from inorganic molecules instead of light.
light reactions The process in photosynthesis where the sun’s rays are captured by chlorophyll.
electron transport chain A series of molecules that pass energy along
photolysis This means light splits water
anaerobic This step is part of respiration and takes place without oxygen
glycolysis The initial breakdown of sugar occurs in this process producing 4 ATP's.
lactic acid Strenuous exercise causes a build up of this in muscles
alcoholic fermentation Ethyl alcohol and carbon dioxide are end products of this
fermentation This is an anaerobic process that occurs after gylcolysis if no oxygen is available
respiration The process by which food particles are broken down to release energy.
aerobic This is a step that takes place in respiration and uses oxygen
citric acid cycle This is the second step of aerobic respiration and produces lots of carbon dioxide
