excrete - to release waste
excretory system - removes wastes from the body often used to refer specifically to the urinary system
Major structures of the urinary system - kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra
order of urinary system structures - Kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra
Kidneys - You have two They filter urea out of the blood They also filter out excess water This urea and excess fluid forms urine
Ureters - Carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder
bladder - stores urine until it is excreted
Urethra - tube leading from the urinary bladder to the outside of the body
Nephron - functional unit of the kidney There are about a million in each kidney It is the nephrons that filter out urea and excess water from the blood
Urea - a waste product produced by cells it contains nitrogen, so it is also referred to as nitrogenous waste
