405 Circulatory Sys

TermDefinition
parts of the circulatory system - the heart, the blood vessels, and the blood AKA the cardiovascular system
Functions of the circulatory system - transports oxygen, waste, nutrients, hormones, heat, etc. around the body
chambers of the heart - right atrium, right ventricle, left atrium, left ventricle
arteries - carry blood away from the heart
veins - carry blood to the heart
capillaries - Smallest blood vessels substances can diffuses into and out of blood while blood is in capillaries
flow of blood through the heart - right atria - right ventricle - lungs - left atria - left ventricle - body
parts of blood - plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets
red blood cells - carry oxygen
white blood cells - fight infection
Platelets - form blood clots to heal cuts
plasma - Liquid part of blood mostly water
Liver - Filters toxins from blood
Kidneys - Filter nitrogenous waste from blood
