Cell Organelles
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Organelle | A specialized cell part that carries out specific functions to ensure a cell's survival. |
| Cell (Plasma) Membrane | A thin covering that separates the inside of a cell from its external environment. |
| Cell Wall | (Plant Cell Only) A tough outer structure. |
| Cytoplasm | A jelly like substance that contains the organelles |
| Mitochondria | Organelles that are specialized to provide energy for cells by changing glucose into usable energy. |
| Chloroplasts | (Plant Cell Only) Trap the energy from the sun and make glucose. (Photosynthesis) |
| Ribosomes | Small organelles makes proteins. |
| Vacuoles | Storage containers within cells. Usually large in size in plant cells. |
| Nucleus | The organelle that controls all the activities of the cell parts. |
| Nuclear Membrane | A membrane which is similar in structure to the cell membrane that protects the nucleus. |
| Nucleolus | A membrane free organelle that floats in the nucleus. This organelle make ribosomes. |
| Nuclear Pores | Openings in the nuclear membrane that only allow certain materials into and out of the nucleus. |
